After a fire, theft or other event, it may be difficult to remember every item that was lost or damaged in your home. If you prepare a Home Inventory in advance, it will be easier and quicker to file a claim if the unexpected happens.

Why do I need a Home Inventory?

Having a detailed, accurate, inventoried list of your belongings, including models and serial numbers and estimated values, will significantly reduce the time and difficulty of filing an insurance claim. By documenting a record of your possessions, you will know immediately what to file on an insurance claim. Also, an inventory will confirm that you have everything insured accurately and that the limits of your coverage sufficiently cover you.

Some general steps to build a home inventory from Travelers Insurance:

  • Take time to walk through your property. Compile a home inventory document along with photos and videos. Upload all.
  • Keep your inventory in a safe place that you can access whenever needed.
  • Update your inventory often.
  • Don’t forget your business assets.
  • Consider your valuable items and make sure they are insured correctly.
